Branching Out
This tree changed more than you might think.
When I was learning to navigate life with a vestibular disorder, I would walk ten minutes from home to visit this magnificent Catalpa tree near Queen’s Park in Toronto. I was drawn to its resilience, its beauty and its wonderfully gnarly branches.
In November 2020, just a year after I started painting, it became the inspiration for Branching Out–a painting that captured a moment when both tree and artist were doing exactly that.
It remains one of only two paintings I’ve created that isn’t entirely made of geometric shapes.
